Dr Ayodeji Amobonye

Dr Ayodeji Amobonye is a Nigerian biotechnology researcher and academic whose work advances the frontiers of microbial biotechnology, sustainable bioprocessing, and bio-based innovation. Until March 2026, he was a Research Fellow at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, where he demonstrated a strong, impact-driven research portfolio in the development of bioplastics from sustainable biopolymers such as potato peels. Deji, as he fondly likes to be called, has a PhD in biotechnology from Durban University of Technology and has developed expertise in enzyme biotechnology, microbial fermentation, natural product discovery, and bio-based materials. His research has explored the production and application of microbial carbohydrases, the valorisation of lignocellulosic biomass, and the antibacterial potential of plant-derived compounds against multidrug-resistant pathogens. His work also extends into emerging areas such as postbiotics, smart biomaterials for food systems, and computational approaches including molecular docking and predictive modelling.
Recently ranked among the Stanford University / Elsevier Top 2 Scientists in his field within his current research environment.
Dr Amobonye has built a robust international profile through academic and research positions across Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, and Lithuania. These experiences have shaped his interdisciplinary perspective and strengthened his commitment to global scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange. He was also formally recognised by the Nigerian Consulate in Vilnius at a recent official event, highlighting his role as a distinguished Nigerian contributing to scientific advancement abroad. His scholarly output includes about 50 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and collaborative research addressing pressing global challenges in health, food security, and sustainable industry. Beyond research, he is dedicated to mentoring emerging scientists and fostering innovation among the next generation, especially in Nigeria. Through his work, Ayodeji Amobonye exemplifies the excellence, resilience, and global impact of Nigerians in science and technology.
